Norths Devils Surge Ahead

The Norths Devils moved to the outright lead in the Intrust Super Cup after their 28-12 win over the Easts Tigers at Bishop Park today.

The Devils led 18-6 at half-time, but were forced to work hard in the second half after the Tigers crossed for the first points after the break to put the heat on the home team.

But Norths pulled away with tries in the 57th and 71st minute to move two points clear of the Souths Logan Magpies.

The versatile Troyden Watene had another outstanding game for the Nundah club, scoring a try and kicking four goals in the comfortable 16-point win.

With five rounds remaining, the Devils are now in the box seat to claim the prestigious minor premiership.

Queensland Residents winger Daniel Ogden took his season try-scoring tally to 16, but he has been overtaken on the leader’s board by Redcliffe dynamo Ryan Cullen who pocketed a hat-trick on Saturday.

However, Cullen’s haul wasn’t enough to get the Dolphins over the line against the Sunshine Coast.

The Sea Eagles recorded a strong 34-16 despite missing a number of their big guns in the Stockland Park clash.

Brandon Costin’s team has now jumped into sixth spot on percentages but can ill-afford to stumble against the dangerous Tweed this weekend with Mackay and the Northern Pride also locked on 18 competition points.

The Pride continued its stunning late season revival with a strong 22-16 win over the Cutters in Mackay.

Kaine Manihera and Ryan Stig scored fantastic individual tries for the visitors, who will be aiming for a fifth successive win this weekend when they venture to Browne Park for a round 18 clash with the Comets.
